Open Call: Stubborn Gladness

Regional artists are invited to submit work for an exhibit inspired by a few lines from a poem by Frank Gilbert in which he declares:

We must have the stubbornness to accept our gladness in the ruthless furnace of this world.

We are looking for diverse responses to this prompt.

We would like to include as many artists as possible in this exhibit, so most artists will have a single work selected. We will select two artists to have their work featured in the exhibit. Featured artists will have up to five pieces exhibited.

CALL FOR ART: "Stubborn Gladness" hosted by Third Story in Lancaster, PA, July 11 through August 23, 2025, with an opening reception on Friday, July 11th from 5 - 8 pm.

SUBMISSIONS:

Due date for submissions is June 18, 2025 at 11:59PM

Artists are invited to submit original artwork with fees as follows: $20 to submit up to five works for consideration.

Artworks will be juried by Leah Fox and Stephanie Gibson, the gallerists at Third Story.

ABOUT US

Leah Fox and Stephanie Gibson are two artists who met years ago through a love of jewelry making. Both began painting with intention in 2020. Their first joint foray was in 2021, when they mounted a tiny pop-up art fair in Stephanie’s yard. In July of 2023, they began dreaming of creating an inspiring space where artists could come together and build a community of support.

Third Story is that space. There are many ways for you to engage with this community: come view an exhibit, join a workshop, or find affinity and inspiration at one of our community events.
